163: No Personal Trainer

Woke up and had
Y shredded wheat cereal and fed the kitty. Not in that order. She would have flipped out. At work I had my 2 cups of coffee. I love making coffee at work. It's the only way I can face the rest of the day. Brought some more aloo gobii to work but opted for a eggplant wrap from ilili restaurant from Madison Square Eats. It wasn't the best thing I've eaten there. They all can't be. We actually got out of work early and I just couldn't go inside a gym when it was so beautiful outside! I went home and jogged around the cemetery. Humid as all hell. I need a headband to block the sweat from going in my eyes. Super gross. I made a stop to say hello to my dead grandparents and finished the run strong with the incline.

173 or My Off Day

I decided earlier in the day to run 5 miles tomorrow. It's a modest goal, but one that requires me to rest my bones or at least that's what I tell myself. I don't want to push too hard too soon. It's all about pacing myself.

Foods: 3 cups of coffee with creamer, oatmeal, that ham and turkey sandwich I make, drunken chicken, pear, popcorn, 1 string cheese.

I think I did better today with the candy. 2pm is the worst. I need to buy carrots and hummus.

174 or the first time I saw the finish line

When I'm running, a lot of shit runs through my head. I've written about this last week. One of the things I like to think about is crossing the finish line of the marathon. Except I don't always get to see it in my head. I think about many things, but the finish line is nowhere to be found. I realize I'm in control of my thoughts. Right now I want to think about Scarlett Johansen naked. Pow! There she is! However, the finish line is allusive. It's not always at my disposal. I believe this means I'm not ready mentally for a marathon. Not until I can visualize that finish line anyway. Not that I've seen it and crossed it in my minds eye I'm ready for my next step in my training.

Today was the first 5k I ran without slowing down this season. Good stuff. Busy week for me socially so hopefully I'll be able to get a few runs like this in there. I should point out that I'm not fast at all. Look at this time on the 5k

Pathetic! But I keep at it and this is the best I can do right now. It's better than sitting on the couch.

Foods: that mango cereal thing, 2 cups of coffee with creamer, 2 rice balls from Madison Square Eats, bag of Swedish fish, sour patch kids, popcorn, can of tunafish with spicy mayo on two buns.

I really need to lay off the candy. Such a fat fuck.

176 or the day I ate a lot of chips

I woke up kinda late today. I just didn't want to get up. I was hoping the extra rest would magically heal my sore foot. It did not. However, that didn't damper my spirits about running. I figured I've jogged in pain before and today would be no different.

During my run I thought about Christopher Moore and how I should read more of his work. A lot of my friends really dig it and I bet I would too. I was also thinking that Kurt Vonnegut must have had a really great life. I did another 5k and a little extra. My new apartment has a huge cemetery so jogging around it is about 4 miles, but killer inclines. Luckily, I haven't felt any shin splints yet.

Foods: Too much to mention. 2 cups of coffee, mini wraps from my friend's kid's birthday party, guacamole, chips, olives. I earned it though.

177 or the day after I drank a lot of Sangria

See, the problem with training is any sort of fun knocks your training down a peg. Take last night: My friend and I won tickets to a broadway show and we celebrated with empanadas and sangria at Empanada Mama. If you're from NY or visiting one day soon you must go there. Problem with hanging out with this friend is that her eyes are bigger than her liver (that's a saying, right?) Where I wanted to get the medium sangria pitcher she forced us to get a large. It was too much alcohol and today I feel sluggish.
